Procurement of wheat may cross 32 MT
Wheat procurement has started in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthanwith state and centre agencies procuring for central pool and in a fortnight will begin operation in Punjab and Haryana. Food Corporation of India officials expect procurement figure to cross the target of 32 million tonnes for 2018-19, with state governments ensuring that agencies procure wheat ensuring farmers get minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 1,735 per quintal.

High fibre: India cotton exports gather pace as global prices rally
Indias cotton exports have been gathering pace after global prices jumped to four-year highs, with traders in the worlds top producer of the fibre signing contracts in the last three weeks to ship over 1 million bales, industry officials told Reuters. Increased supply from India could drag on the rally in international prices and would likely compete with shipments to Asia from exporters such as Australia, Brazil and the United States.

Government cuts Bt cotton seed price to Rs 740/packet
To bring relief to cotton growers hit by pest attacks, the government has cut maximum sale price of genetically modified (GM) Bt cotton seeds to Rs 740 per packet for the second year in a row from Rs 800 earlier. That apart, the royalty fee or trait value payable by domestic seed firms to technology developer MonsantoBSE -0.63 % Mahyco Biotech (India) Ltd (MMBL) has been slashed to Rs 39 per packet from Rs 49.

Milk production up 20% in 2014-2017: Agriculture Ministry
Milk production in the country increased by 20 per cent from 137.7 million tonnes to 165.4 million tonnes between 2014 and 2017, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Radha Mohan Singh has said. Also, the per capita availability of milk has risen by 15.6 per cent from 307 gms a day to 355 gms per day between 2013-14 and 2016-17, an official statement quoted the minister as saying.

Sugar industry expects government to scrap export duty this week
The sugar industry expects the government to take a call this week to scrap export duty on the commodity in the wake of forecast of a record output for the second consecutive year. We are hopeful that the government will very soon remove the export duty on sugar, said Prakash Naiknavare, managing director of the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF).
